founding story

In 1999, Delfarib Fanaie and her husband, Farshid Samsami, travelled to their home country of Iran with the hope of adopting a child. Their journey led them to several orphan care centers in Tehran, where they witnessed the profound needs of countless children.

During this life-changing trip in 2006, Delfarib met a young girl named Sepideh who asked her a heartbreaking question: “Why can’t you take me with you?” Stirred by this encounter and unable to provide a comforting answer, Delfarib knew her life would never be the same. Inspired to make a difference, she rallied her friends, family, and co-workers to join her mission of helping impoverished children.

This collective passion gave rise to Moms Against Poverty (MAP) in 2008, a volunteer-based nonprofit committed to providing for the basic needs of underprivileged children and empowering them to thrive. Fast forward to 2020, Delfarib’s vision extended beyond borders, leading to the establishment of Moms Against Poverty Canada, modelled after its successful counterpart in the USA.

With the dedication of Delfarib and a devoted team—including five board members and Delfarib herself as Vice President—Moms Against Poverty Canada became a registered charitable organization, allowing donors to receive tax-deductible receipts.

Mission

At Moms Against Poverty Canada, we are driven by a deep commitment to nurturing hope and opportunity for impoverished children worldwide. Our mission is to transform lives and communities by addressing the critical challenges of poverty, including hunger, lack of education, and the devastating effects of natural disasters.

Through our core initiatives—hunger relief, disaster response, and educational empowerment—we work to break the cycle of poverty, ensuring that every child not only survives but thrives with dignity and resilience. Guided by compassion and a belief in the power of community, we empower children and their families to build brighter, more sustainable futures. With your support, we continue to bring meaningful change to those who need it most, fostering lasting impact for generations.

philosophy

We believe in empowering impoverished children while respecting their individuality and maintaining their dignity and self-esteem. Positive change and healing are not only possible, but probable, when these children are treated with compassion and provided guidance and support.

By empowering individuals and communities, we create a lasting impact and forge a path toward ending the cycle of generational poverty.
